The road to Armidale

We are on our way again. Once more we have our travels designed to fit with the Australian Champs for Orienteering -this time being held near Armidale NSW and starting this coming Saturday 28th with Middle distance champs. We have a 4 day road trip ahead of us, starting with a tyre check and pumpContinue reading “The road to Armidale”

Relaxed touring day Wilpena and Arkaroo Rock 13/6/23

We were up to say goodbye to Craig and Ev before they headed out of camp and then packed up in a leisurely fashion. The wind was chilly and rain threatened, plus we were both still feeling pretty tired and ragged. Maybe today was not the time to try the climb up to Rawnsley Bluff.Continue reading “Relaxed touring day Wilpena and Arkaroo Rock 13/6/23”

Witchelina walking – getting there day 2 (21/5/23)

The first van pulled out at about 8:30, raising us from our comfy warm dozing into a crispy morning. We took our time getting up and about but we’re eating breakfast by the time Al Pettet dropped in on his way home from riding his motor bike in the Simpson. (on his way home fromContinue reading “Witchelina walking – getting there day 2 (21/5/23)”

It’s not just about the destination but about the journey too. 18/2/23

We are keen to see our loved ones but have so enjoyed the relaxed life of the fisher, camper and traveller. On our last morning we woke up to the sounds of the little birds in our lovely spot away from everyone and enjoyed a quick breakfast and cuppa before heading on up the trackContinue reading “It’s not just about the destination but about the journey too. 18/2/23”

Other Stuff at Yarrawonga 9-13/10/22

I think we were in need of a rest. We had a lovely sleep in, then caught up with our friend Maurice for a few hours. This was a much better chat than we had managed at the sprint event a few days prior. It was unlucky for him that he had to make anotherContinue reading “Other Stuff at Yarrawonga 9-13/10/22”

Yarrawonga Regional Park walk 8/10/22

Every picture tells a story. Looking at the map above you can see where we hoped to walk (all the tracks shown) and where we managed to get to. We parked the car and walked in OK from the end of the road, but every track we tried ended up in the water. It wasContinue reading “Yarrawonga Regional Park walk 8/10/22”

Yarrawonga Weir Walk 8/10/22

The Yarrawonga Weir was constructed between 1935 and 1939 and formed Lake Mulwala. The twin towns of Yarrawonga (on the Victorian side of the River Murray) and Mulwala (on the NSW side) are linked by a narrow bridge. Most of the facilities are on the Victorian side of the river. You can just imagine whatContinue reading “Yarrawonga Weir Walk 8/10/22”

Chinaman’s Island Walk – 7/10/22

Our first walk in Yarrawonga was to a spot called Chinaman’s Island. This is not really an island, but is almost one. It is land set aside as a nature reserve and has a lovely path to follow with some great views. The area was used as market garden, pig farm and pastoral farm forContinue reading “Chinaman’s Island Walk – 7/10/22”
